This technique converts a colored photo into pencil drawing effect in Adobe Photoshop CS3

1. Open the image you want to apply this effect to and duplicate the layer. To duplicate the layer - Go to the Image menu - choose "Duplicate Layer" and click.

2. In the layer's pallete, change the blending mode of the duplicate layer into Hard Light. Go the Filter menu – choose Other – then High pass and click. When the High Pass box appear, set the Radius to 2.0 pixels and click OK.

3. Under Filter menu - choose Sketch category – choose Note Paper and click. When the Note Paper dialog box appear, adjust the setting: Image balance 23, Graininess 0, Relief 0.
4. If there are lines or areas that are light, use burn tool to darken it. I draw some of the missing lines in the image using a brush tool.
