This technique converts a colored photo into a black and white newspaper effect using. You will get the same result as this one by using the Threshold and changing the blending mode in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

1. First, open the image you want to apply this effect to and adjust the image resolution to low (72 pixels). Image resolution is found under Image menu, choose Image Size and click.
2. Next, go to the Layer menu and click Duplicate Layer.

3. In the Layer's Palette, select the Duplicate Layer (background copy) and change the blending mode to Hard light.

4. Again duplicate the "Background copy" and click "Invert".
To invert the image go to Layer menu choose "New adjustment layer", choose "Invert", or use the shortcut key for PC: Crtl+I. See the image above.

5. Now, in the Layer's Palette - select the "Background copy". Drag and place it above the "Background copy 2". See the image above.
