7. In the Layers palette, click the “eye” icon beside the texture layer (layer 1) to hide it. Select the hand image (background image) to make it active in the layer’s palette. While the hand image layer is active click the "magic wand tool" or use "lasso tool" to select the background area. Click “Delete” to clear the background.
8. Select the texture layer (layer 1) to make it active. Click the “eye” icon to make the texture layer visible. Then click “delete” and this will leave the texture in the shape of a hand. In the layer's palette, change the Blending mode to “Overlay”. If it looks too dark, try “screen” or multiply if you want a darker effect. Result:
