This is a simple tutorial for applying any texture to an image using Displace Filter.

mapping a texture to another image step 1

1. Open the image you want to apply the texture to. In this sample I use the image of a hand. Under the Image menu click Duplicate.

2. Desaturate the duplicate. To desaturate go to the Image menu – choose adjustment – click desaturate or use the short key (PC) Shift+Ctrl+U.

After the image is desaturated, go to the Filter menu – choose Blur then Gaussian Blur and click. When the Gaugassian dialog box appear, adjust the Radius to 2.0 pixels then click OK. Save the desaturated hand image and name it as hand.psd (not jpg.) Remember which folder you saved the image. Once it’s saved close the image.

3. Now open the image you want to use as a texture. This sample, I use image of a computer chip. Drag this texture image to move it by using "move tool" to place it on top of the image of the hand.
